A project of the Economic Opportunity Institute
Men have been hit the hardest by unemployment because they are over-represented in the beleaguered construction and manufacturing industries. Their job losses contribute to the growing reliance that families have on women’s paychecks for financial security.
Men in Washington make up a bigger share of the unemployed, underemployed, and long-term unemployed. More women than men work part-time in Washington, but more men work part-time due to economic reasons, especially in this recession.
